Overview

The France - South Africa Scholarship Programme supports academically strong candidates from South Africa, Lesotho and Malawi who wish to further their studies in France. Successful applicants receive France Excellence Scholarship status, a monthly living allowance, airfare, social security and health insurance, priority access to student accommodation, visa fee exemption and support services from Campus France. Preference is given to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines, including related humanities and social sciences.

Eligibility Criteria

Be a citizen of South Africa, Lesotho or Malawi
Be born on or after 1 January 1997
Not hold dual French citizenship
Have obtained a minimum average of 60% in the most recently completed qualification
Intend to pursue a Master's or PhD at a recognised higher education institution in France

Application Process

Applications must be submitted online only through the France - South Africa Scholarship Programme portal before the closing date. Applicants must submit a completed online form, passport or ID copy, updated CV, motivation letter, academic certificates and official university transcripts. Shortlisted candidates are invited for interviews in November 2026.
