Commonwealth Master's Scholarships 2027/28 (United Kingdom)
Overview
The Commonwealth Master's Scholarships support talented and motivated individuals who have the potential to contribute to the sustainable development of their home country and who would not otherwise be able to afford to study in the UK. The scholarships fund one-year, full-time taught Master's programmes at eligible universities and higher education institutions in the United Kingdom. Applications are considered under the six CSC development themes and must be submitted through the CSC Central application system via an approved nominating agency; the Department of Higher Education and Training is the national nominating agency for South Africa.
Eligibility Criteria
- Be a South African citizen or otherwise meet the Commonwealth eligibility requirements
- Be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country
- Hold a first degree of at least upper second-class (2:1) honours standard, or a lower second-class degree with a relevant postgraduate qualification
- Be unable to afford to study in the UK without the scholarship
- Provide all required supporting documentation in the prescribed format
- Commit to returning to South Africa at the end of the scholarship to contribute to the country's development

Application Process
Applications are made through the CSC Central application system. Applicants who wish to be nominated by DHET must select the Department of Higher Education and Training as their nominating agency when completing the application. Shortlisted applicants are interviewed by DHET, which nominates candidates to the CSC by December 2026.
